Summer will be here eventually and it’ll be time to hit the beach! If you’re like me, you love wearing jewelry no matter where you are or what you are doing including when you are swimming in the water. Unfortunately, salt water can destroy plated jewelry, but I’m happy to share that there are other alternatives to wear, so that you can continue to sparkle even when you’re underwater.
When stainless steel jewelry became popular over a decade ago, it was bulky and heavy, so it wasn’t for those who preferred dainty, feminine designs. Technology has changed a lot since then and dainty stainless steel components are now available not just in the dark gray color that we are familiar with. They now come with yellow gold and rose gold overlays, so that we can enjoy them in a variety of colors. Personally, I love mixed metals, so this is one of the advances in jewelry technology that thrills me the most.
One of the greatest things about stainless steel jewelry is that it’s hypoallergenic and even those who have allergies to metals like silver and gold find that they can wear stainless steel without worrying about allergic reactions. Stainless steel is extremely strong, so you can still wear light chains without worrying about it breaking. Finally, the best part about it is that it doesn’t tarnish or change color, which means that you can wear it in the water without worrying about ruining it! Jewelry that is silver or gold plated will usually change color right away due to the nature of the base metal underneath the plating. However, stainless steel doesn’t have the same properties, so it will retain it’s color even with the yellow gold or rose gold overlay on it. People who wear jewelry that they never take off are especially please by this since they can even wear it in the shower.
